Junior Fours

Hi Friends!

I hope you all had a good weekend!  We were refreshed by ours and are thankful for the gift of being back with your children today at school

This week we are starting our unit on stories. I am going to be reading some of my very favorite stories to the kids, and I would LOVE for you all to send in a favorite book with your son or daughter for us to keep in his or her cubby for the next 3 weeks.  My plan is to highlight each student’s choice book, one per day in the next couple of weeks.  As we talk about stories, we will also begin our “Jesus Storybook Bible” curriculum and will talk to the children about all the stories in the Bible pointing towards Jesus.  We will also talk about each of us having a story that matters to God, and that we are a part of His big story.  To end our unit, we will celebrate by dressing up as our favorite storybook character.  This does not need to be an elaborate costume, but just something that feels fun for your kids.  More info to come about that, but I did want to get it on your radar screen to have a little something for your Junior 4s by approximately Friday, October 6th for our Storybook party.

Also in school this week we will:

  • Learn all about the Letter “F”
  • Learn the verse “Do not be afraid, be strong and courageous”. Deuteronomy 31:6
  • Talk about the Fiery Furnace story in scripture
  • Making patterns in math

We are doing lots of creating at school, and I am keeping your child’s work in a binder that you will receive at the end of the year.  Hopefully knowing this will give you the freedom to throw out what comes home, and in case you were concerned that you weren’t seeing some of the things we have been making, you will know that that is because we are keeping them for you.

As another update, we have decided that our class will check out books in the library on Fridays to keep in our classroom.  They will all be checked out under my name and then the kids can read them during the week as we picture walk at school.  If you happen to have a library book at home, please send it back to school at your earliest convenience.

*Wednesday, September 20th is Dear Dads Breakfast.  This is a time set aside for your child to have  breakfast off campus with dad or a special relative/friend.  Early morning care will be  at 8:15 a.m., carpool at 8:35 a.m., and the bell rings at 8:55 a.m.

Also, I have pictures to add to Flickr and will do that this week!
