7th Grade Placement

Parents considering St. Paul consider not only what St. Paul offers their children directly, but also what opportunities their students are likely to have for secondary education.

St. Paul students are among the most competitive students for admission to the leading college-preparatory secondary schools in Nashville. Schools receiving the greatest numbers of St. Paul graduates over the past 3 years are Montgomery Bell Academy (7th-12th), Harpeth Hall (5th-12th), and Brentwood Academy (6th-12th). Some students also transfer to kindergarten through twelfth grade schools such as The Ensworth School, Lipscomb Academy, and Franklin Road Academy.

There has been a marked shift in recent years in the profile of our graduates. From entrance exam scores, to writing samples, to interview skills, to academic performance, our students are much better prepared today than they were seven years ago. Therefore, the options that our students have available to them at the 7th grade are greater, and the percentage of our graduates attending more selective secondary schools has significantly increased, as illustrated by the chart below.
